Boy, have I been a bad little blogger?!? I had intended to blog every day for a year. Instead, I couldn't even blog every day for a month. I suck. It's true.
I've been a little bit under the weather, but not bad enough that I couldn't blog. It seems I just didn't want to for a few days. My weekend was pretty hectic. I had acupuncture to help me stop smoking. I could have thrown $40 out the window and told myself not to smoke for all the effectiveness of this action. I'm smoking very little, but I think it is only because I'm mad that I spent $40 and I thought it would make it easier not to smoke. Instead, it makes me more mad!
I've done very little knitting. In a fit of stupidness, I ripped back the mitten I was working on. I had made a mistake on the increase for the thumb and I just went nuts and ripped the whole stinkin thing out. I've calmed down some and am trying again. Next, I want to make this.
I can't decide if I want to start on that or continue on with the mittens. I'm not really inspired by the Lion Brand wool I'm using, or maybe it is the color (Cadet Blue). Regardless, it just isn't doing it for me. But as we have a snow day here today, I really think I would like some completed mittens. So I'm goig to dedicate the rest of the day (when I'm not doing everything else) to completing them. Or one of them, anyway.

23. One Sweet Scarf
Finished the Noro scarf this morning before work. Isn't it pretty?

I wish I had made the bind off not so loose, but I haven't blocked it yet and I think I may try to stretch the cast on edge a little to make the ends match up more. I love the colors of the scarf, but I'm not sure I'll wear it much as I barely can stand a coat, much less a scarf. I am planning on wearing the scarf tomorrow though. At least once. Then I will wash it and block it and put it away in the gifts-waiting-for-recipients stash.
The mittens are coming along. I'm working on the increase rounds for the thumb right now. I'm not really find of the cadet blue color, as it seems a little bright for mittens, but I was going for warmth, so I'll try to ignore that for now. I'll post pics of the mitten progress tomorrow.
For now, I'm sooo tired. I think my crazy-busy week at work has caught up to me. I'm headed to bed.

22. This was a day, for sure
Wow. I can't begin to tell you how exhausted I am tonight! I'm not sure why, really, because a busy day at work is not all that unusual, but I am really feeling whipped.
It could be because I didn't get lunch. Or dinner (although I could have - I cooked burgers tonight, but I just wasn't in the mood to eat.). Now the kids are in bed and I'm thinking I might be hungry. I'll deal with that in a little bit though. Right now I am finishing up the Noro Scarf. I really hope it gets finished tonight, as it is supposed to turn back cold tomorrow and I'm just ready for it to be finished. I'll bet you are too!
I've also been keeping later hours at night and getting up earlier, what with the new puppy and all. I think I spend more time outside than in! I could put him out by himself, but he just sits at the door and stares at me with his head cocked to the side. I'm hoping that gets better as he gets older.
I splurged on myself last night. I bought a scrub top from Wal-Mart. I don't usually buy them there, but it was on sale for $7.00!!! Now I know why. I put it on this morning and realized it was a little bit lower cut than I preferred, and that it was a wrap-type, but I was sufficiently covered. Shortly after getting to school this morning though, we had a student with a medical emergency and after spending a half an hour on the floor in the hallway I realized that I was flashing the emergency services workers. Great, huh? Safety pin fixed that problem. Then I lost my lunch money due to the hole in the pocket where they didn't finish the seam all the way. (Not a problem really - I didn't have time to eat anyway!) I know you get what you pay for, but sheesh! Not to worry. A secretary at work is an accomplished seamstress and she is going to fix it up for me. She'll be mending the hole in the pocket, fixing a seam on the other pocket that is sewn crooked and allows items in the pocket to fall down BELOW the seam and nearly get lost, and she's going to sew the wrap section of the top so I no longer have to worry about being "exposed".
All in a days work, I guess.
Good night!

21. We now return you to your regularly scheduled blog.
Did you miss me?
I had seriously written a great blog yesterday. In fact, I wrote it twice. Because of the large amount of internet traffic, I kept losing it. It was really frustrating! Apparently, every person on earth must have been blogging about the inauguration. I wasn't - I was just trying to post another boring sentiment or two! (I know, great and boring? That doesn't mix.)
Regardless, I can't even begin to re-write the post from last night. I'm a tired, stressed out woman. I can't remember what I ate for lunch, much less what I rambled on about yesterday!
Right now, I'd love to be knitting. Instead, I'm wasting time before venturing into that hell known as the FAFSA. I know I need to do it. I'm just dreading it a little bit. Or a lot.
Maybe I can knit just a row or two?

19. Have you ever noticed...
How wonderful a quiet house sounds?
James is outside in the shed, John went to visit friends, CJ and Ryan have gone to bed, Maddie is pacing in the laundry room (quietly), and Jasper is sleeping at my feet.
Ahhh...The TV is turned off. The only sound is the furnace and clicking of the keys as I type. It is very seldom that the house is this quiet, especially with a new puppy.
Not that I mind the giggles the puppy brings out in the boys. It is a sweet sound, especially as we had sobbing a couple of weeks ago with the passing of Whitey.
I'm sure if I had more than five minutes of this solitude, I'd probably not relish it as much. There are those who are lonely in this world and don't have the hustle and bustle of a busy home (and isn't a busy home a happy home?). For those people, I feel a little sorry. Solitude is like anything else - too much is really too much. But for me?
This is just enough. I'll take it.

18. The answer to my question
I've gotten a response to the "to frog or not to frog" question. Anita called me and basically accused me of being nuts and said "no way". Soooo....Anita will be gifted with the Irish Hiking Scarf in Sage (I looked it up) upon it's completion. She said it was okay if I give it to her, but asked if I could wrap it up and have it be a birthday present or something. I told her "Sure, because everybody needs a wool scarf on the 9th of May."
Since it is still January, I am still in need of the warm wool mittens I talked about. I dug through my stash and found an almost complete ball of Lion Brand Wool in Cadet Blue. I think it will work just fine. I had forgotten all about it.
Very little knitting has been done here this weekend. I did a few rows on the Noro scarf and I cast on and knit about an inch of the mittens (I'm using the vintage Classic Mittens pattern). No, most of what took place this weekend was babysitting the new puppy. I swear, it is like having a newborn in the house again.
Yikes. That's a scary thought.
